As the name very clearly implies, this is the realm of outlaws and bounty hunters, a setting that we’ve seen realized time and time again. Even so, Pragmatic Play imbues the reels with enough charm to make you forget that you’ve already played through dozens of similar looking games.
Bounty Hunter comes with a standard five reel and three row grid which has 20 paylines delivering wins. To get a payout, you’ll need to have at least three identical symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. The more matching symbols you have in a combination, the better the payout you’ll get.

Wilds
Oddly enough, there are no wild symbols in Bounty Hunter. This comes as an odd choice from the developer, as I for one think wild symbols would be a very welcome addition to the game. Bounty Hunter uses a traditional payout system with 20 paylines and having wild symbols could help put together more frequent and stronger payouts.
Removing wild symbols isn’t unacceptable by any stretch of the imagination but they ought to be replaced by something else that can fill that void, something that Bounty Hunter doesn’t really do.
Duels
The core feature of Bounty Hunter is the duels feature. This is a money collect mechanic that an be activated on any base game spin through the collector symbol which lands exclusively on the first reel.
Whenever it lands, it expands to cover the entirety of the first reel and then duels the outlaw symbols. These outlaw symbols each spawn a cash value from 0.5x to 100x your bet and if the duel is won, the collector symbol absorbs their respective value.
The duels are randomly resolved, so there’s no way of telling if the cash values presented on the grid will be collected or not. Any consecutive duel wins you score build up a win multiplier which is increased by a value of one with each consecutive win.
Last but not least is the win multiplier symbol which can only drop on the fifth and final reel. If the win multiplier happens to be present when the collector symbol expands, it becomes the first duel for that round. Should you win that duel, the win multiplier is then applied to every following successful duel.
Scatter Symbol
Scatter symbols have no payout value, but they unlock the free spins bonus in Bounty Hunter. Landing across all five reels, scoring three, four or five scatter symbols activates eight, 12 or 16 free spins, respectively.
You’ll also be able to land these tokens during the free spins bonus. Scoring three, four or five will similarly increase your bonus rounds by eight, 12 or 16 additional free spins.
Free Spins
The free spins bonus remains largely identical to the base game, with the exact same payouts and mechanics. The main difference here comes through the duel system, where win multipliers are now persistent and can be grown further with every new duel activation. This can significantly impact your payouts, even if the win multiplier is ultimately capped at 100x.
Bounty Hunter also features several bonus buy options. The first costs 12x your bet and will guarantee a collector symbol landing on every single spin. The next is a regular free spins bonus buy which costs 100x your stake, guaranteeing a minimum of three scatter symbols. The last bonus buy option is the super free spins which costs 500x your bet and guarantees that all your free spins will have duels.
RTP & Volatility of Bounty Hunter
There are several different iterations of Bounty Hunter out there, each with a different RTP value including 96.51%, 95.49% and 94.50%. I’d say the 96.51% is the best option, as it theoretically delivers more wins in fewer spins. However, remember that this is a high volatility video slot, and no matter the RTP setting, you’re still in for a challenging ride.
It took me around 250 base game spins between each free spins trigger and while the duel mechanic brought some relief, the limited win multiplier in the base game never got me anywhere near the 10,000x maximum win. You also get a wide selection of bet levels ranging from £0.20 to £240 per spin, so there’s enough variety to accommodate different budgets.

I put Bounty Hunter’s optimisation to the test by playing on my Android phone using a Chrome browser. The performance was fantastic on my device and I could easily switch between portrait and landscape mode.
